Types of clients: Mary treats children, adolescents, adults, couples and families
Treatment Specialties: Mary specializes in the treatment of children and adolescents, including disruptive behavior disorders (ADHD, oppositional children, and conduct disorders). She also works extensively with anxiety disorders, including separation anxiety and obsessive compulsive disorders in children and adults. She sees families experiencing adjustment problems during transitions (divorce; custody/placement conflicts; grieving; parenting adolescents; etc.). In addition, Mary maintains an adult practice treating depression, anxiety disorders, relationship difficulties and other mental health issues.
Training/Experience: Mary received her undergraduate and graduate degrees at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she was awarded an MSSW. She is a member of the Academy of Certified Social Workers (ACSW) and has the most advanced license of a clinical social worker recognized in the State of Wisconsin (LCSW). She has been in practice since 1976, and has provided consultation and training services to numerous state and county agencies and treatment programs.
Techniques:
Mary uses a variety of techniques, depending upon the goals of treatment. Primary treatments include cognitive-behavioral treatment, with a systems approach, and solution-focused therapy, including
psycho-education and interpersonal skill development. She works with psychiatric consultation to provide coordinated medication management, where indicated. Also, she coordinates treatment efforts with school personnel, as needed.
