About our company and GoalMinder

Who we are

PsychSolutions, LLC is the business entity that produced GoalMinder. Mental Health Solutions, S.C. is the clinic which developed and beta-tested the program. Therapists at Mental Health Solutions helped to construct and norm the problem clusters found in the program as well as to act as committees judging which items should be included in intakes, mental status exams, and in several other clinical details of the program.

GoalMinder's developmental history

GoalMinder has been conceptualized and designed by therapists -- psychologists, social workers, and psychiatrists -- from its outset and therefore has a different "feel" than other products on the market. The original programming was done in Hypercard® on a Macintosh system by David Goldfoot,PhD, and then was dramatically enhanced by Gary Davis, PhD. The first prototype version was in use beginning in the late 1980s. The system evolved to a fully functioning suite of programs used in-house by Mental Health Solutions from 1995 until 1999. At the urging of colleagues who saw the program in action, professional programmers were hired to re-write the entire program with a fully relational database and on a PC platform when it was discovered that more than 90% of clinics used PCs rather than Macs. Josh Goldfoot did the original conversion work, followed by intense and continuing efforts of Paul Counsell and Gary Davis. GoalMinder and its companion, GoalMinder Account Manager are now commercially available, although only on a PC platform.

Guiding principle: Patients come first

Everything about GoalMinder is geared first and foremost for the client, secondly, for the improvement of the therapist's effectiveness, and third for improvements in the day-to-day management and enhanced professionalism of the art and science of practicing within a mental health specialty.

Will clinicians use electronic data systems?

Let's face it. With extremely busy schedules, the last thing a therapist needs is to be burdened by extra recordkeeping tasks. There are already too many forms to fill out, too many records to maintain. So, we developed the idea that a therapist would use a product that facilitated his/her job, especially if it improved clinical results and helped the client. Thus, every design and feature decision made included the primary question of whether the patient would benefit directly.
