Confidentiality and data security

Much effort has been put into making GoalMinder secure and confidential. To access the program in any way, a password is needed. GoalMinder provides ten levels of clearance, making it extremely flexible and secure for your patients' confidentiality. Support staff, such as receptionists or account managers see only those parts of a patient's information as is necessary to do their job, and they never see any clinical information. Non prescribing therapists have access to medication information for purposes of completing intakes or logging medications a patient takes, but they cannot use the prescription-writing feature of the program. Areas of the program containing therapy information (notes, symptom ratings, etc.) require special login and password procedures to insure a patient's right to priviledged communication with his/her therapist. The therapist has access to information from his/her own patients but cannot see notes about other patients. For a therapist to see a record of a client who is not his/her patient, the therapist must use an over-ride procedure in which he/she must specify a reason for the security breach (e.g. an emergency on-call situation). A written report of such over-rides becomes part of the log record for the program and a clinic manager will receive a report of all such events. Once notes are written, they can be electronically signed and converted to read-only files so that the record cannot be changed. This feature anticipates requirements of electronic medical record keeping.
