Treatment specialties: Muffin specializes in emotional and behavioral difficulties of children, adolescents, and adults, including problems with depression, anxiety, self-control, school and work performance, stress management, ADHD, parenting, divorce, step-parenting, grief and loss. She helps couples reduce conflict in their relationships by improving their communication skills. Muffin is also interested in working with clients (and their significant others) who are experiencing major life change adjustments due to medical problems.
Training/Experience: Muffin is a Licensed Professional Counselor. She earned a BS from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a graduate degree (MAEd) in Guidance and Counseling from the University of Missouri-St. Louis, and a graduate degree in Social Work (MSW) from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. Having many years of work experience in schools, Muffin has expertise in consultation and collaboration with school personnel concerning clients’ school performance and/or behavioral difficulties.
Techniques: Muffin primarily utilizes cognitive-behavioral techniques with solution-focused treatment. Depending upon the goals of treatment, she uses a variety of additional techniques, including interpersonal skill development and family systems techniques. Muffin works with psychiatric consultation to provide coordinated medication management whenever necessary. She also coordinates treatment efforts with school personnel as needed.
