Letitia has worked for many years with people who experience symptoms of anxiety, such as social phobia, panic attacks and post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). She has lengthy experience treating people who suffer from sexual compulsions. She has also worked extensively with adolescents and young adults who have struggled to meet family, school and/or work obligations, as well as adults who are faced with the consequences of law violations. She has been trained in providing play therapy to children, both through her doctoral program and work on the children's psychiatric hospital units. Letitia also enjoys working with couples and families who are striving to establish and maintain balanced, healthy relationships. Letitia also conducts psychological assessments.
Training/Experience: Letitia received her MA degree from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities and her Ph.D. from the University of Miami. She is a Licensed Psychologist who has over 10 years of experience in the field of mental health. She has worked in schools, shelters, day treatment centers, community mental health clinics, inpatient psychiatric hospitals and juvenile as well as adult correctional settings. Dr. Ley is currently on Wisconsin Psychological Association's Board of Forensic and Correctional Psychologists.
Techniques: Letitia draws upon interventions from many different theoretical approaches, including cognitive-behavioral, behavioral, family systems/systemic family therapy, narrative therapy, attachment theory and Gestalt, as well as Rogerian and Adlerian therapies. Letitia strongly believes that each person is an expert about his or her internal functioning; she works with clients in a collaborative rather than a directive way. She tailors techniques to each client or clients; she helps people to identify their primary concerns, then works with clients to set a series of realizable goals as treatment progresses.
