Types of Clients: Adults, older adolescents, couples, families, seniors.
Treatment Specialties: David treats sexual concerns, including pornography addictions, problems with low sexual desire, and difficulty with arousal and orgasmic problems for both men and women. David works closely with probation/parole and the legal system to offer therapy to sexual offenders as well as victims of sexual trauma. He sees individuals with gender identity issues. He treats sexual intimacy problems as well as providing innovative couples counseling for nonsexual issues for straight and gay couples. He also provides therapy for physical problems related to psychological stress; emotional issues related to physical disease; personality disorders; anxiety and depression, and obsessive-compulsive problems. More recently, David has been offering therapy to the elderly population. Originally trained in Medical Psychology followed by a 2-year post doc in Endocrinology and over 15 years as a researcher before specializing in clinical problems, David brings the unique perspective of a scientist to the treatment of psychological and behavioral problems.
Training/Experience: BA Reed College, 1964; MS, PhD, 1969, University of Oregon Medical School; Two-year Endocrinology postdoctoral training, Rotterdam Medical Faculty; three-year postdoctoral clinical retraining program, UW-Madison Dept. Psychology. Postdoctoral clinical internship, WIsconsin Department of Corrections. David has been in clinical practice since 1984. Prior to entering private practice, he was a scientist at the Wisconsin Regional Primate Research Center and was an associate professor in the Psychology Department at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He served on advisory panels to both the National Institute of Mental Health and the National Science Foundation. He has published more than 60 articles regarding basic scientific questions of sexual and aggressive behavior. Owner/partner at Mental Health Solutions. National Register Listed. David also has a strong interest in quantifying progress made in therapy and is the originator of a continuous outcomes method for tracking gains in therapy. He developed GoalMinder software, used by this clinic, to formalize this process.
